Interview with Carl Ocab – Making Money Online with a 14 Year Old
My name is Carl Ocab and I give tips to people who wants to make money online via blogging, websites and other methods. I’m a 14-year old kid from the Philippines. I was on the net since I was a boy. Playing online games, chatting, networking, etc. and even though I’m still studying I still strive to do my best as a blogger and a student.
Too Young to Smoke, Too young to Drink, But 14 year old prodigy makes fortune as a… BLOGGER!
1 – What inspired you to create carlocab.com?
On the first days of January and February this year, I was very crazy about gadgets and those techy stuff. Of course for a kid, holding those sleek metals would make me happy. But because it was just right after Christmas, my parents wouldn’t buy me one.
That’s where it all started, I began searching for great ideas on how to make money online (I know then that my dad is doing it) and luckily stumbled upon an interesting article about blogging (can’t remember where it was). Although I actually have some MFA blogs 2 years back, that article taught me that blogging is not just a way of getting quick money, but also for long term readership.
Few days after that, my dad bought me my 2nd domain and carlocab.com was born.
2 – What were the main challenges you faced in getting carlocab.com off the ground?
In the first few days, I was worried on what wordpress themes I would use and some other technical stuff. After that, I had to understand how to get my website exposed to people, to other bloggers. I concentrated on boosting my exposure, building controversy, socializing and letting the world know what this “kidblogger” can do!
3 – What single factor would you say helped you the most in getting carlocab.com where it is today?
Marketing/branding. I think everyone can see that working on my blog!
4 – Did you ever think you would be so successful?
So successful? Back then, my first plan was to put carlocab.com on the first page of Google’s results for the phrase “make money online”. I got ridiculed in one of the forums which believed that the niche is just too hard. Well, that’s one success for me.
But I never imagined that I will be a big hit in the blogosphere, that I will be featured in one of our national newspapers, that I can mix and exchange emails with the A-listers.
Maybe, if I had just set my mind before that I’m gonna make it in the online world I could have achieved more to where I am now.
5 – If you could go back in a time machine to the time when you were just getting started. What business related advice would you give yourself?
Well, I now have an A-Z list (detailed plan) of what to do to make a blog a success. I’ll just have to follow this strictly. This applies to those wanting to get a successful blog. Have a plan and get to work.
6 – Do you think that entrepreneurialism is something that is in your blood? Or is it something that can be learned?
My parents were not entrepreneurs before. They had jobs. They just learned to be entrepreneurs.
Almost everything nowadays is possible. You want to be invisible? There’s a coat for that. You want to change your color from black to white? Ask Michael Jackson!
Yes, of course it can be learned by anyone. If a 13 year old kid can do it…..
My dad said the first thing to do is change your mindset. I did not know about that. I have not experienced getting a job. I just watched how people do it and learn from them.
7 – Is there anyone that you look up to and model yourself on?
None at all! Having a “model” is just a way of limiting yourself to what your idol have achieved. By doing so, you actually don’t strive for the best but for the second best, after your idol. I just carefully watch what works and learn. But no, don’t think of me as a racecar driver that drives without his map, I’m a kid with an enormous vision 😉
8 – What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Have a vision of where you want to go.
9 – What is the best thing about being a successful young entrepreneur?
You got problems to solve – and by solving problems you get to learn more at a very young age.
10 – What are your plans for the future?
In the next few months my online company will be up and running. It’s called the “Rich Kid Media”. There will be new products to launch and many many more sites to come! You can visit Rich Kid Media for updates on what’s going on and also a copy of my FREE report! C’mon, download it now.
