Niche Blogging – The Truth about Making Money Online

By:     Topics: Blog,Making Money Online

Are you still struggling to reach your minimum adsense payout? Is your paypal account showing a whopping credit of $12?

Chances are if you are in mass market of ‘blogging’ or ‘make money online’ niche, you aren’t making money online.

That’s the truth and it hurts.

For most bloggers, they think in order to make money online all they have to do is to start a blog, monetize it, start writing about “how to make money online” and the money will follow.

How wrong!

What Did Sonia Simone Say?

Sonia Simone, one of the writers that I have upmost respect for, recently wrote about a great divide in the online marketing world.

On one side, there is a cool kid who has 4,999 Facebook friends, 34,278 Twitter followers, and $12 in the bank who spend more time updating the collective about what he is doing than he actually spend doing anything.

And on the other side of the fence, an Internet marketer who drives flashiest car and in Dean Hunt’s great phrase, spend 16 hours a day working so he can make money while he sleeps.

I bet the majority of you fall into the first category.

If you don’t, I wish you greater success and stop reading.

3 Golden Tips on How to Make Money Online

If you do, don’t despair. Start taking some real action by following one of the 3 proven money making techniques that I’m gonna share with you today.

Each of which comes with its own set of difficulty.

1. Beg Michael to spill some beans on how he “under-value & over-deliver” his advertisers when there are too many advertisers fighting for too little advertising spaces.

2. Rub shoulder with the cream of the crop or use a pseudo last name as Chow so each time before the new revolutionary product hits the market, you’ll get a chance to review it. Being the first guarantees big profit in affiliate sales.

3. Create a niche blog.

The last is certainly one technique that anyone with little or no experience can duplicate, rinse and repeat easily.

And Dean Hunt thought it was one of the hottest model for blogging.

Niche Blogging is Where The Money is

As you might probably have realized (or you’ve not), niche blogging is where the money is. There are more money involved when you can narrow down your niche or topic to the best of your ability.

The narrower your niche is, the more money you will be able to make as you will not have that much of competition.

Probably you might have heard of an old marketing adage of “Find a need and fill it” – that’s what’s niche blogging is.

Or in the words of Seth Godin, “find a group of possible customers you can identify and reach“.

The rule of the games is simple.

1. Find a high paying keyword with high search volume,
2. Narrow it down to one that has little competition,
3. Start a niche blog targeting on that long tail keyword and
4. Monetize it either with adsense and/or affiliate products.

What we are trying to achieve here is high search engines visibility. If you can’t be on the first 3 pages of Google, drop it.

Let’s take a look at how I created one niche site yesterday using an example of broad keyword “Debt” which is known as one of Adsense top paying keywords advertisers are bidding for.

Using Google Adwords Keywords Tool, I was able to narrow it down to more specific long tail keywords

1. Debt
2. Debt Consolidation
3. Debt Relief
4. IRS Debt Relief

As you can see from the above image, those keywords are high paying keywords with high search volumes and super high avg. CPC (cost per click) which translate into more adsense income for you – the publisher.

Now here’s the part that’s slightly more complicated, which keyword should I focus on?

Basically, you need to study your competition, in theory, how many search results for your keywords. Obviously, more search results equates to more competition. Well, I’m not going to write a full-length report on how you should do it. That’s worthy of another post.

Just so you know, there are a couple of keyword research tools available in the market that will tell you which keywords are no-go and which are worth competing with. Personally, I use Micro Niche Finder to find the best keywords combination and the strength of the competition.

And I finally settled for IRS debt relief which has the highest avg. CPC ($32.35), a decent search volume (1300) and  the lowest search results (170K).

Don’t be a Cool Kid

Now the gist of this article is to share with you one simple truth.

That is, unless you are blogging for passion and not for monetary gains, you need find a profitable untapped niche, start a blog and profit from it. Once your first niche site is successful, rinse and repeat the process to profit more.

In other words, don’t be the cool kid with the most Twitter followers, be a smart kid with bigger adsense check and the most money in your paypal account.

How much you can profit from it is really limited by your own creativity and mindset.

It’s also worth noting that niche blogging might not your passport to retire at 21, you still have to go through the same process of building any successful blog,

but it’s worth your sweat at the end of the day.

Because it pays more while you sleep.

So if you are still sitting on the sideline, act now and see you at the top.

You make a very good point and I agree that many of us Internet Markets are guilty of doing exact what you say. I know I am. But you have given me something to think about and I thank you for that. Keep up the good work.

  2. Very good point. I started out way too broad, but am making it my top priority this year to identify niches that meet the criteria you are speaking of. This is as true of offline business as it is for online business.

  3. Josh Hurlock http://twitter.com/JoshHurlock says:

    Yan,

Thanks for the post. The key is getting involved with a business one is extremely passionate about and one in which the burning desire will not cease. This is what http://www.under30ceo.com/ is founded on, getting entrepreneurs to do what they love and sharing their ideas. Blogging about a passion is easy, blogging about something not interesting to oneself, is very difficult. Finding that niche that is not too narrow, or broad, is extremely important in looking to rise as an entrepreneur.

Lol the smiling photo of Yan, his trademark. Made me scroll and started reading all over again.

Great article. It’s easy to try picking a high paying search but it’s usually pretty hard to get in the top 3. These tips could really help out my blog when I am thinking up posts to write about.

  6. Tnomeralc Web Design Toys says:

Seems so nice tip. Can I add using hxxp://www.google.com/sktool/ ? Also, can i ask the difference of this one with the g00gle adwords tool you guys just mentioned above? I am still confused with them.

  7. Creative Writing Tips says:

Great post! It’s important to recognize that not everyone has to target the best terms to make a site. Carve out a niche on the smaller terms and you will be able to build a strong income regardless.

  8. Nice article. Do you use the “exact”, “phrase”, or “broad” measurement when using the google tool?

  9. victory motor cars says:

    thanks for your post

  10. Healthcare Management says:

great post, if possible would you please suggest me ideas for my niche, m interested in health care management, after reading your previous post and this post hope you will help for some ideas for my niche.

  11. Dorm Room Biz says:

Great post. A follow up post should be about when you get content for your niche sites if you do not have the time to write it all – free article sites, etc. Would love to see that info laid out! Thanks!

  12. Play Games Win Prizes says:

I just recently started a bit of keyword research, but I barely do any, so I’m at loss.

  13. Eddie Gear says:

    Hi

I’ve gone niche too! It’s been a week now and looking forward to getting some good traffic improvements. Eventhough there are not much posts on my site as yet.

    Cheers,
    Eddie Gear

  14. I just want to mention the other side of things…

The non-niche blogger or the “Guerilla Blogging”
    see it here: http://keywordspeak.com/?p=142

  15. Online savings says:

Is there really any truth in what people say. Who will actually want to share their secrets? Especially within the online space . But the basics on keyword research and choice is important. I break down my keyword analysis into three – Demand,Performance and GAP analysis. Try it out – it does work.

  16. Blogging about making money online works, but you have to put the effort into it. A lot of “make money online” bloggers end up quitting after a month or two because they are disappointed to see that they haven’t made a penny yet. Doesn’t matter what you blog about, you have to learn and accept criticism from others, and work your way up from there. Stay on task and don’t give up.

  17. John Taylor says:

What an excellent blog, I’ve added your feed to my RSS reader. :-)

  18. Good information, but a Blog with so many grammar and spelling mistakes loses credibility. I don’t mean to be critical, just my response.

  19. Ormiston says:

It sounds like you’re creating problems yourself by trying to solve this issue instead of looking at why their is a problem in the first place.
