5 Reasons Why You Will Never Retire From Blogging

By:     Topics: Blog,Blogging

Making money by blogging seems to be the latest fad. Everyone wants to be doing it but only a select few are. A heap of people start blogging, and if you visited their blog within the first two weeks you would have said, ‘This guy could be a problogger. They have what it takes.’
Their blog is growing, they seem to be developing a following and maybe even start to gain some authority in their niche and then 1 month, 3 months, 6 months later the blog has gone stale. They may still be posting, they may not – but it wouldn’t make a difference either way. Their blog is dying – and so is their dream of retiring from their blogging income.
There are really only 5 reason why the dream of retiring from blogging is crushed:

  1. You Are Too Lazy
If I had a dollar for every time I have heard someone say that they want to create a blog and make money from it, I could probably treat myself to a world-wide jet setting holiday. It is vogue to start blogging and everyone is jumping in head first because they see the monthly income reports of the probloggers and think ‘This would be way easier than work’.
Most new bloggers are under the impression that making money from blogging is collecting sand at the beach, and when they find out that it requires hard work, a lot of hours and creative thinking, they stop blogging and go back to work. Blogging is just like any business, you have to provide a service, build a network, and convert your customers. But most people wont do this because they are lazy.
  2. You Give Up To Easily
Isn’t this just what you were talking about? Isn’t giving up the same as being lazy? Not really. These bloggers understand that to make their blog a success they need to put in the hard yards. They need to push the pencil and burn the midnight oil, and that is exactly what they have been doing. For the last month they have been writing quality posts, commenting 10 new blogs a day, submitting their posts to social networking websites, promoting their blog like a mad man. Now one month later they are burnt out, have 15 subscribers, 50 uniques visitors a day and ready to give up.
You see, these are the bloggers that tried so hard but in the end their lack of results started to get to them, and they thought that if they hadn’t had success yet, they probably never would. They let their circumstances dictate their attitude.

  3. Your Content Is Rubbish
You know the ones I am talking about. These bloggers come wearing many different outfits.
    There is the:

    • Regurgitating Blogger – who justs rewrites what everyone else is talking about
    • Depressing Blogger – who is always failing and never looks at the positives
    • The’ I Failed English’ Blogger – No offense but do you even spell check your posts?
    • The ‘Hand In Every Basket’ Blogger – Do I need to explain?
    • The Criticizer – who is always bagging the latest products and probloggers

I think you get the idea. Visitors want to be informed, inspired or entertained, if your content doesn’t fit into these extremely broad categories, there is a good chance you blog will be struggling to survive within 6 months.

  4. You Don’t Network Property
Networking is vital if you want to be successful as a blogger. If you are not networking you are basically just going to get search engine traffic – and in the first few months this will be very sparse.
Set yourself networking goals if you have too. Goals like:

    • Comment 5 new blogs a each day
    • Spend 30 minutes each day posting in forums
    • Write at least one guest post a month
    • Learn how to correctly use social networking website

A lot of bloggers fail simply because they do not understand how to network properly.

  5. You Never Start Blogging
Maybe the pictures you had of a successful blog with people complimenting you on your efforts was all just in your head. A lot of people will never succeed in blogging only because they never started. People will always make excuses for why now isn’t the right time for them, or why they could never retire from blogging.
They sad thing is, maybe they could have. Maybe they could make enough money from blogging to retire from. But they will never know.

So do you have what it takes to become a problogger that is able to live off the income their blog generates?

  • Are you willing to put in the effort required?
  • Will you choose never give up?
  • Are you prepared to commit only publishing quality content?
  • Are You ready to network like crazy? (The smart way of course)
  • And if you haven’t started already – then are you prepared to start?

If you can answer ‘yes’ to all of these, then I have no doubt that you have what it takes to be a problogger.
Success is 1 percent talent and 99% hard work!

  1. Some great tips there Tom. I have been known to be quite lazy but I’m hoping to prove that wrong by developing my new blog into something great. 😀

  2. Hendry Lee says:

    Tom,

I like the 4th point. That is so true. I was never disciplined in promoting one of my blog because of the lack of interest in that topic.

It ended up on and off for months before I decided to abandon it.

  3. Rajaie AlKorani says:

I answered yes to all the questions, so I guess I’m on the write track. I actually find networking fun since you meet a lot of new people, so for me, that is the easiest task of all.

  4. I like the idea of commenting on 5 new blogs everyday. I think this is the first time I’ve ever commented here, so only 4 more to go :)

I think my site must be entertaining – it really doesn’t fall into any other category, lol. I’m not a millionaire from it, but I’m having fun and doing ok.

  5. Yes, especially the second. My first three websites failed. It wasn’t until number 4 that I finally started getting some great traffic and enough to start buying stuff. 😛

  6. Stephen Kinsey says:

Number four I am guilty of never doing, I always know I should be commenting on blogs more but it’s just something I always end up putting off. Well here’s one for today I guess, so just four more to go.

  7. Its the Thing me and the kids i train we want so much but we still lack capacity to do so as it requires internet and its so marginal to us.

  8. Zak Show says:

I have to say that Im 100% agree with you, a lot of people start blogging but they rely also in buying content and that doesn’t work at all for blog because you need to post regulary and also because when you are blogging you are expressing yourself.

  9. JK Swopes says:

Great observations Tom, I agree fully with each point made, blogging is work, plain and simple. If one isn’t wiling to put in the work, then, they better not expect much.

I really like the tips on networking and commenting on 5 NEW blogs a day. I comment on the blogs I read the most, and, when I find others that have commented I may check out their blogs as well. But to make a point to seek out 5 new blogs to comment on….I will have to try that one out!

thanks Tom, see you over at your blog :)

  10. order medications online says:

i will never tired creating blogs because it was really fun and cool to post some thoughts and opinions..

  11. Tom - StandOutBlogger.com says:

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys!

  12. Pays to Live Green says:

Great tips. I can see how anybody can ruin a blog by not staying on top of it and continually promoting it.

  13. I don’t comment on new blogs every day, but am a very regular visitor to the sites I do comment on!

  14. gadgets says:

    i am loving your blog
    nice articles..
I just started blogging and hope will do well 😀

  15. Syed Balkhi says:

Excellent post. It is my first visit to this site and this post fits perfect with the title of this blog.

  16. Gino Cosme says:

Good list. And very true. To me, networking and content are one of the key pillars of social media success.

  17. Make Money says:

You’re incredibly right, especially the rubbish content part. Most blogs suck. Pure and simple. It takes /crazy/ great content to make it big. No exceptions. :)

  18. Dilson Decano says:

great post about blogging. sometimes im lazy but i never give up. blogging is fun

  19. i think that never starting is the saddest of the bunch. but i do see that where some rather promising blogs just seem to run out of steam.

  20. Paid Survey Guy says:

You’ve hit the nail on the head here Tom. I think the biggest problem is SEO and getting traffic from Search Engines for many bloggers; they have the writing skills but they lack good computer knowledge so end up giving up due to lack of money. Like you said; it really comes down to the work you are willing to put in. Result don’t come overnight.

  21. Work From Home Business Blog says:

Good tips. I feel that in order to know what to write, you really have to read more so that you present a different perspective of what others are saying. Otherwise it’s just repeating or copying other bloggers. Your blog has got to be unique, informative and compelling to read.

    Peter Lee

  22. Diana Freedman says:

I really like tip #4. I haven’t tried posting in forums yet, so I’ll definitely try that out. And it’s easy to burn out doing this, which is why you need to be passionate about the topic you’re writing about. Some bloggers can do everything right the first month or so, but it can become overwhelming when you also have a full time job.

  23. Great tips. I will put them to good use.
